New Year’s resolutions encourage us to positively change something about ourselves, yet if we don’t stick to them it can feel very discouraging.

So, let’s change that!

Here are a few tips to help you keep your resolutions and make 2014 an incredible year:

Be honest. Choosing a resolution that is sentimental to you will help inspire you to keep going.

Be realistic. Starting with smaller goals will make it more likely that you’ll succeed.

Be specific. Setting an exact goal let’s you know when you’ve crossed the finish line!

Be supported. Talk to your family, a friend, or me about your goals for encouragement along the way.

We’re here to inspire you and support you in your journey. So, cheers to the new year and the new you!

You can do it.

One Hundred Types Of Arthritis

Arthritis comes in over 100 varieties, but it doesn’t have to strike you!

As we age, many of us start to feel pain in certain joints, particularly in the hands, hips, knees, feet and spine. This seems especially common in women. A doctor might make the broad diagnosis of arthritis, an inflammation of the joint that causes pain and stiffness, but do you know that there are at least 100 different types of arthritis that fall under this very broad umbrella?

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage between the bones in the joint breaks down, causing pain as the bones grind against one another. Typical causes are aging, repetitive use, being overweight and a family history of the disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder of the joints that usually begins between the ages of 30 – 50, is also quite common. Symptoms that include swelling, redness and a feeling of warmth usually begin in the small joints of the fingers, wrists and feet. More common in women than men, this condition can be very disabling, affecting one’s ability to work and lead a normal life.

Other common types of arthritis include gout, lupus, fibromyalgia, Scleroderma and carpal tunnel syndrome. Depending on the type and severity of the condition, physical therapy and different combinations of drugs may be prescribed to relieve pain and reduce swelling.

Can Chiropractic Help Your Joint Pain? Chiropractic care may be helpful at both preventing arthritis and in reducing pain and lack of mobility in those who already have the condition. How? When a person has arthritis, pain keeps them from moving. Lack of movement reduces the use of the joint and decreases range of motion, which makes the condition worse.

Chiropractic adjustments may help to increase mobility in the joints, causing more movement and a reduction in pain. They also may help slow down the progression of the arthritic condition.

Chiropractic care may also help prevent arthritic conditions because it encourages specific behaviors and habits that contribute to an overall healthy lifestyle, such as diet, proper weight maintenance and exercise.

In addition, chiropractic adjustments help to keep the spine properly aligned and the nervous system, which controls the immune system, functioning optimally.

FAST FOOD FOLLY

It’s no secret that our highly developed western culture is experiencing increasingly alarming rates of obesity.

Especially among children, who are the largest (no pun intended) consumers of fast foods. Millions spent on advertising, action figures and catchy jingles make fast-food icons the most popular figures in the world.

The younger you are, the more likely you are to eat at a fast food restaurant. The typical person eats at a fast-food restaurant 9.2 times monthly!

And it’s not just what we eat, but how we eat it. If you’re in the habit of wolfing something down while driving or standing over the kitchen sink, you can’t “hear” your body tell you that you’re full, and so you’ll be more likely to overeat. Eat more slowly since it can take your brain up to 20 minutes to register that you’re full.

Most of us spend upwards to 90 percent of our allotted food budget on processed foods. That’s a prescription for disaster. To enjoy optimal health, not only do you need an interference-free nerve supply, but you’ll want to make raw foods the majority of your total daily food intake.

Breathe Easier!

A report funded by the Australian Spinal Research Foundation suggests that there may be a link between chiropractic and the reduction of asthma symptoms.

According to Macquarie University researcher Dr. Ray Hayek, the study involved hundreds of people suffering with asthma symptoms.

“When an asthma sufferer is under the anxiety of a looming asthma attack, the levels of the hormone cortisol increase. This acute increase in cortisol through a number of mechanisms can bring on an asthma attack,” says Dr. Hayek. “Levels of the stress hormone cortisol steadily decreased during the trial, and levels of immunological markers (immunoglobulin A) steadily rose.”

Which is a scientific way of suggesting that reducing nervous system stress with chiropractic adjustments may have a positive effect on those susceptible of having an asthma attack.

While chiropractic isn’t a treatment for asthma, it appears that by reducing tension to the nervous system, the symptom called asthma may be reduced. Fascinating!

Every day we have the privilege of witnessing what happens when someone’s ability to self heal is restored. Their personality returns. Their sense of humor reappears. You can see hope in their eyes.

It’s one of the best feelings in the world. And we know a way that you can have that same feeling.

How? By telling someone you love about chiropractic.

We depend upon delighted practice members telling their friends and family. Nothing fancy. Maybe something like, “You should see my chiropractor.”

We have the new patient openings and the interest to help more people. A word from you might lead them to our website. Or to pick up the phone. And begin the journey of self-healing.

If you do, I can make two promises. The first, is that we will treat them with profound respect, just as we have you. And second: you’ll feel great knowing you helped someone else.

the simple truth about chiropractic

It’s Effective. Because the nervous system controls your entire body, and chiropractic care helps restore nervous system integrity, chiropractic care has been known to help a variety of health issues.

It’s Natural. Simply put, chiropractic care doesn’t add chemicals to your body. And it doesn’t remove parts. Instead, it seeks to restore proper control and regulation of your body so health can return, naturally.

It’s Safe. Chiropractic care is so safe, even newborns get adjusted to correct the spinal trauma from the birth process!

There’s No Side Effect. Any “side effects” tend to be positive effects. Such as better balance, more energy, increased vitality and improved coordination.

It’s the Smart Choice. It makes sense to correct the underlying cause rather than fool the body with drugs.

Studies show that chiropractic practice members tend to be better educated. If you know someone you think we could help, we hope you’ll send him or her our way.
