LISTEN CLOSELY!

Huge radio telescopes are used to scan the heavens, searching out the faintest signal. The larger the telescope, the fainter the signal it can detect.

If we listen to our body, we can pick up the faintest, earliest warnings that something is amiss.
With skill, these messages can be detected long before the health issue becomes serious.

Ignore these warnings, and your body may have to literally scream to get your attention!

Be sensitive to things like:
· Changes in digestion or intestinal gas
· Pain when attempting to turn or bend
· A persistent cough or throat clearing
· Increased frequency of urination
· Sudden loss or increase of weight
· Dark circles under the eyes
· Inability to fall asleep or stay asleep

Waiting until symptoms become obvious makes correction more difficult.

If you’ve been waiting for a problem to “go away on its own,” call our practice for a thorough examination.

Keep it Simple. Easy, Affordable Ways to Slim Down and Stay Healthy

Did you know, people who walk their dog 20 minutes a day lose more weight?

Are your kids, family or life making it impossible to exercise for an hour everyday? We understand. The pressure to exercise can feel really overwhelming and if you can’t meet your goal it’s easy to feel discouraged.

Here are some easy changes you can make in your life that can make a difference in how you look and feel. Sometimes keeping it simple is the secret to success.

Jump! Jump! Skipping ropes, aka jump ropes aren’t just for kids. Get your cardiovascular system revved up and ready to go. This is one calorie-burner that works every muscle, delivering a full-body workout that slims and tones (quickly). Do it for 5 minutes before you hop in the shower in the morning, or while you wait for dinner to cook in the oven–you’ll be surprised how much energy you’ll have afterwards.

Bark in the Park! Get your dog and go for a walk. In one study, people who walked their dog 20 minutes a day, five days a week lost an average of 14 pounds in a year! Let your best friend help you become more active. Plus, a tired dog is a happy dog. Remember to grab your headset and you can double-up on those phone calls to family and friends. Or, you may have a neighbor or friend who would love to join you.

Feel the Beat! Listen to some fun, energetic music while you exercise. New music can make exercise exciting and keeps you going and maybe even helps you workout harder. Music is a great distraction, so it doesn’t seem as though you’re working as hard. So make a fun playlist and get moving.

Get a Gym Ball. This popular new trend provides a fun way to improve flexibility, balance, strength and tone. Use one as your desk chair to help strengthen your core and improve posture. Or, take a few breaks to do sit-ups or pushups throughout the day. Remember, when it comes to your goal, start small, you’ll be more likely to succeed.

Hydrate. Drinking plenty of water can help tame your appetite and make you feel more energetic! So, spruce up your water with some lemon or oranges, or add a splash of juice. Even herbal tea can be a nice way to hydrate without getting bored of H20. Want to spice things up a bit? Enjoy coconut water every once and a while for extra hydration after a workout or busy day.

Catch some extra Zzzzzzz’s. Recent research found that sleep deprivation increases food cravings and decreases the amount of leptin in your body – a hormone that helps burn more energy. So don’t skimp on sleep if you want to slim down. How? Cut out a little television or cut back on technology so you can get to bed early. Trust us, you’ll be happy and alert come the morning.
You don’t have to get fancy to exercise, and you certainly don’t have to join an expensive gym or spa either. So, start small and set goals and before you know it you’ll be feeling and looking better!

Hypertension hope

A new study shows chiropractic care can have a significant influence among those with high blood pressure.

Have you been diagnosed with hypertension, more commonly known as high blood pressure? If not, would you even know you had it? Do you know what the symptoms are? Usually there aren’t any – that’s why it’s called the “silent killer.” Many people discover they have it through some catastrophic, life threatening, and often fatal event, such as a stroke or heart attack.

Those who do have symptoms generally experience headaches, blurred vision, and dizziness – and these symptoms may lead them to their medical doctor where hypertension is diagnosed after a blood pressure check.

Since one in four adults are diagnosed with high blood pressure, this is a condition that requires careful and frequent monitoring, especially if there is a family history of the disease.

Causes of hypertension? The list is extensive – and emotional stress, obesity, genetics and kidney failure rank high on that list. However, other conditions such as substance abuse, smoking, heavy alcohol consumption, pregnancy, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders and certain prescription medications may also contribute to its onset.
Treatment for high blood pressure usually includes one or more of the following – medication, exercise, diet therapy, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol consumption and weight loss.

However, the results of a promising new study recently appeared in the Journal of Human Hypertension, WebMD, Science Daily and on a number of television news shows. The study was conducted by George Bakris, MD, director of the Hypertension Center at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and Marshall Dickholtz, Sr., DC, of the Chiropractic Health Center in Chicago.

Fifty participants with diagnosed high blood pressure participated in the study; 25 received specific adjustments to the first vertebra of the spine, known as the atlas. The other 25 received “sham” adjustments (placebo). Immediately after, the 25 who received the “real” adjustments experienced a significant decrease in blood pressure, while those who received the sham adjustments showed no change. The results remained the same eight weeks later.

It is also notable that although participants took no blood pressure medication during the eight-week study, the “real” atlas correction had the effect of two blood pressure medications taken in combination.

Finally, chiropractic is getting some notable press from the medical community and with good reason. When you address causes of illnesses, rather than just alleviate symptoms, through spinal corrections that “free” up the nervous system to work as it is intended, real miracles occur.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

It’s a statement we often hear during the early stages of new practice member care. They usually go on to describe some aspect of their health that has improved along with the problem that prompted them to begin care in the first place.

Let’s say you know someone with high blood pressure. At first glance, it may seem to be a circulatory problem. But not so fast!

Nerve interference along the spine can produce a variety of health problems. Correct the spinal problem and circulatory and other problems often improve.

Does that make chiropractic a treatment for high blood pressure? Of course not.

The intent of chiropractic care is to restore the function to a compromised nervous system. Instead of ‘side effects’ the happy results are ‘positive effects.’ Throughout your body!

What is your account balance?

Think of your health as a type of bank account. You can make deposits (good nutrition, exercise, proper rest, chiropractic care, etc.) and you can make withdrawals (neglect, stress, pepperoni pizza, over doing it, etc.)

Like your bank account, if you make more withdrawals than deposits, you get some expensive overdraft notices from the health bank.
Many people begin chiropractic care because they’re overdrawn and their health bank has levied some harsh fees. These penalties serve as a reminder that they haven’t been making adequate deposits.
If you’ve lost your health, you’ll need to make some immediate deposits into your account to get yourself out of the red. We call that Relief Care.

Then you have a choice. You can neglect your account and suffer a relapse and more service fees later. Or, continue making deposits into your account, building up your balance and giving yourself some breathing room. Think of that as Corrective Care.

The smartest option is to continue making still more deposits, opening up a savings account that can serve as a buffer you can call upon in moments of stress. We call that Wellness Care.
What’s the balance in your health account?
